Most dance injuries are not sudden or traumatic, they are more commonly chronic and occur as overuse over a longer period of time. The dancer's movement patterns can sometimes become inefficient and incorrect over the time of his or her dance training and the body tries to cope or compensate. These incorrect patterns can
create more problems in the firing of muscles, the tone of the muscles, and an imbalance of use. Because the training involves repeated use through dance class, rehearsals, and performances these injuries can become serious if untreated. Injury prevention relies on the dance instructor to notice improper movement patterns, and the dancer themselves being aware when things don't feel right.
This workshop teaches the signs and symptoms of the most common dance injuries including tendinitis, snapping hip, sprained ankles, and low back pain. You will also learn strengthening and stretching exercises that can prevent these injuries and lengthen the dancer's career, as well as basic rehabilitation exercises if you feel you have been injured. This course also teaches you to know when to see a professional about your condition and how to communicate effectively with the doctor.
