As medical professionals, it is our job to keep these young dancers healthy and safe throughout their careers. By the time that we usually come into contact with the dancer, it is unfortunately probably due to an injury. They come to us for a solution to their problem and sometimes even a “quick fix”. It is our job to explain to the dancer what pre-disposed them to the injury, properly diagnose them, teach them how to effectively rehabilitate the injury and provide ways to prevent injury from happening again. Some of us come from dance backgrounds ourselves, while others just love the art of dance and helping people. As the medical professionals helping take care of the dancer, we need to understand the mechanisms of certain movements and the basic technique of their craft.

Dance Medicine Academic Seminars is a traveling consulting and lecturing company created by Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapists. We felt there was a definite need to incorporate health education and dance medicine. Because all dance techniques have injury related risks, we as medical professionals, need to be aware of the latest information and research regarding health and dance injury care.

We have created workshops that have been designed to continue your education and sharpen your skills in evaluating, diagnosing, treating dance injuries, and analyzing dance technique. These interactive workshops provide new information for your evaluation skills. They will help your eye see technical errors, and give you creative ways to correct and rehabilitate these faults and injuries. For example, the Dance Injury Assessment Workshop addresses the benefits of early assessment of injuries and being able to avoid a prolonged serious injury keeping the dancer from performing. This workshop focuses on the full assessment of dancer, including history, observation, and mechanism of injury, diagnosis, healing time and rehab techniques. The Dance Medicine Physical Workshop and the Pre-Pointe Evaluation Workshop are also key workshops for medical professionals.
